Wedding Speech

During the course of a wedding ceremony, many individuals may choose to give a wedding speech. Although only certain members of the wedding party and parents of the individuals that are being wed are required to give a speech at the wedding, anyone that has something that they would like to say about the bride and groom can make a speech. The speech is an opportunity to tell the assembled mass of family and friends stories about the bride and groom and let the lucky couple know just how much they are appreciated. The speech is an integral part of the wedding ceremony.

Not all individuals in the wedding party are required to give a wedding speech. The best man at the wedding is typically expected to give a speech about the groom while the maid of honor is expected to give a speech about the bride. The father of the bride also is expected to give a wedding speech and during the reception, the bride and groom may speak a few words to the friends and family that have attended the ceremony. After everyone that is expected to say a few words has spoken, anyone that wishes may be allowed to speak. Opening the floor to anyone that would like to speak can result in some memorable moments that can be enjoyed on the wedding video for many years to come.

To create a good wedding speech for the wedding ceremony, it is important to keep the tone and the theme of the wedding in mind. If the wedding is a formal affair, then the speech that is given should be formal in tone as well. This does not mean that the speech writer should refrain from using humorous stories or anecdotes in the speech, it only means that the tone of the speech should reflect the formal nature of the ceremony. A more casual wedding can allow for greater leeway. With a more casual reception, any speech usually abounds with humor and amusing stories about the bride and groom.

When writing a wedding speech, it is important to keep a few things in mind. It is great to use humor in a speech, but it is very important that the humor is not needling or mean spirited. The occasion is meant to be a happy one for the bride and groom and one disparaging statement may ruin the tone of the evening. It is also important to stay away from inside jokes that many of the individuals attending the function may not understand. Long drawn-out stories may begin to put individuals to sleep and will also detract from the mood of the event. By keeping the feelings of the bride and groom in mind while crafting the speech, you are sure to have a great speech that will be enjoyed by all of the individuals that attend the event.

Wedding poetry is one option for a wedding speech.
