Wedding Gift Ideas

Here are some of the best wedding gift ideas for that lucky couple who has invited you to their wedding. Whether the couple are family, close personal friends or family friends or business acquaintances, choosing the best wedding gift can often be a decision not lightly made.

In the past, when most couples were young and just setting up house, wedding gift ideas tended to focus on household items. I can remember attending a wedding as a young teenager and watching the couple open gifts of toasters, dishes, linens and even a hot water bottle!

In 2008, often the couple have lived together prior to the wedding and have already accumulated those household necessities. By the same token, one or both parties may have been married before and are bringing household goods with them.

So what are some of the most practical wedding gift ideas? Consider giving gifts of money, especially when setting up household is not necessary. Having just planned and paid for a wedding, many couples will appreciate receiving monetary gifts that will help pay for the honeymoon, purchase a new home, or pay off those wedding bills.

If the couple has registered their gift preferences, then you will find a number of sure-to-please wedding gift ideas. One suggestion about purchasing from the gift registry: buy one of the higher-priced items on the list. Often these are selected by the couple with faint hope of receiving that particular dream gift. Even if you can’t afford it by yourself, considering joining forces with other guests to get the couple the gift of their dreams.

Other wedding gift ideas may be the reservation at a luxurious hotel on their wedding night before they leave for their honeymoon. This is a gift than requires some detective work to verify that alternate plans haven’t already been made. It can also be given in advance to avoid interfering with the couple’s plans.

Items that will last and be passed down through the future generations are also great wedding gifts. Items that are engraved with the couple’s name and date of the wedding also make good gifts, as do crystal or silver. However, my favorite is still the gift of money, that’s always what I suggest when asked for wedding gift ideas.
