Unique baby shower ideas cover the range of decoration, activities and themes. Some of the ideas we received from our friends were based on their own experiences or just an idea that sprang from their imaginations.
Unique Baby Shower Ideas - Themes
- Go for Chinese or Indian Theme and create a "little China" or "little India" at your home. You can get Chinese-theme party decoration (you could look for the decoration used for the Chinese New Year at the discount party supply store), or Indian one (if you live in a area with large enough Indian population, you might be able to find Indian-owned general stores with interesting Indian decor). Have chopsticks ready for Chinese theme, or have good quality chapatis and samosas for Indian theme.
- It seems to me a royal theme would be good. Make a long purple cape out of crepe paper or fabric for the mama-to-be and get her a faux tiara. Turn a chair into a throne. Invitations could read "Queen So-n-So is giving the kingdom an heir, etc." Obviously games and gifts are easier if you know whether it will be a prince or princess.
- I think it would be cute to do a theme party. Have everyone come dressed as a baby.
I don’t know about dressing as a baby as a baby shower idea, but it’s certainly unique!
Creative Baby Shower Ideas - Activities
- A (chemical-free) spa day, with hand/foot massages, etc and lunch. Similar to the bridal packages many spas offer, but without alcohol. This could be a chance for the expectant mother to indulge herself one last time before everything becomes crazy.
- I was at a shower where each guest decorated a cloth square and the mother-to-be's mother put all of the squares together to make a very cute quilt.
- Another idea in a similar vein: Each guest is asked to bring their favorite Bible verse to the shower. Later they write the verse in permanent color pen on the cloth squares. The cloth squares are then featured prominently in a “Blessing Quilt”.
- Have a spa activity baby shower. Everyone gets a pedicure, but they may choose other treatments. The mom-to-be, of course, gets the whole works as part of her shower. The place is decorated with the nursery or shower theme, and the gifts are opened at the end, when everyone's relaxed.

Unique Baby Shower Ideas – Decorations
- For my friend's baby shower (first baby) I decorated the entire house with "decorations" that pertained and could be used to care for the baby. For example, for hanging decorations I hung a bottle brush, nail file, etc. For the centerpiece I took a money bank that was of a rocking horse and put some "starter money" in it for the baby's future college fund. Everything I decorated with the mom to be could take home. No waste!
Unique baby shower ideas are not limited to activities, themes or decorations. One woman wrote that she likes to invite guests to bring either diapers or a baby book with an inscription for a chance to win an extra prize. That way, the mother-to-be leaves the shower with not only the gifts, but diapers or a new library of books for her baby.
