Ask several people to name the top love songs and you will get a very diverse list. Someone who grew up in the 50’s will have a much different list of the top 10 love songs that will someone who came to adulthood in the 90’s. One may think that “Unchained Melody” is the absolute best love song of all time and look confused at the mention of “Thank You” by Dido. Who???

Since there are so many different choices for top love songs, we’ll give a peek at the top five from a couple of lists. See how many you recognize and if you agree that these are the best of the best. To be honest, there are definitely some that I don’t recognize.

3. “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion
4. “Endless Love” by Lionel Richie & Diana Ross
5. “Your Song” by Elton John

Here’s another top five from another list of top love songs selected by the visitors of a website about love songs.

1. “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” by Elton John
2. “You are the Sunshine of my Life” by Stevie Wonder
3. “Just the Way You Are” by Billy Joel
4. “Up Where We Belong” by Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes
5. “This Will Be” by Natalie Cole

From another list of top 20 long songs, the first three match the first three in the first list above. However, the next five were love songs that were different:

2. “Maybe I’m Amazed” by Paul McCartney & Wings

4. “I’ll Be There” by Jackson 5
5. “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing” by Aerosmith

Every person has their own idea about the best love songs. Usually it will be a song that was popular at that time in their life when they fell in love. Often that song will also have been sung in their wedding. Having said that there are also lists of top wedding songs:

The one thing about love songs is that no matter how much time has passed suddenly hearing that song will often have a real emotional impact. That is perhaps why there are so many different lists all with a wide variety of songs. The emotional attachment to a particular song is really what places it on a list of top love songs.
