Special occasion invitations are considered necessary and proper etiquette when planning a special event. Although family gatherings or small dinner parties may not require more than a simple phone call or email, more formal events tend to require written invitations.

Invitations should be ordered and mailed out far enough in advance of the occasion to ensure that your invited guests are available. Remember the bigger the event, the more notice, in the form of an invitation, should be given.
