The Social Security Association created the top 10 social security baby names for the 1880's from much sparse data than is available today. In some cases buildings of record weren't well organized until even into the early 1900's. Paper birth records were sometimes totally lost in fires.
The Biblical baby names John and Mary maintained the highest spot on all the Top 10 Social Security Baby Names list during each year of the 1880's. William and Anna remained in second spot for each year.
In 120 years the Social Security baby names have not changed much at all. Some parents are even choosing to name their children some of those older names, such as the popular boy name "George" and the popular girl name "Helen".
