Romantic valentine day poems are often sought out by those wishing to express their feelings in an elaborate way. Not everyone has either the verbal or poetic skills to turn their emotions of love into a bit of impressive prose. Instead these love-inspired folks may choose to send the object of their affection a bit of romantic prose from one of the romance poets.

Although some of these romantic Valentine Day poems have been around for centuries, the sentiment express is just as fresh and timely now as when it was first penned. These poems tell of a depth of love and affection in such a way that they are still being used today to tell someone they are loved.

Here are the first few lines of some of the best-of-the-best romantic Valentine Day poems:

By Lord Byron:

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies,
And all that's best of dark and bright,
Meet in the aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which heaven and gaudy day denies.

By Ann Bradstreet

If ever two were one, then surely we.
If ever man were lov'd by wife, then thee;
If ever wife was happy in a man,
Compare with me ye women you can…

By Thomas Hood

I love thee, I love thee,
'Tis all that I can say;
It is my vision in the night,
My dreaming in the day.

By Eugene Field

Accept, dear girl, this little token,
And if between the lines you seek,
You'll find the love I've often spoken
The love my dying lips shall speak.

By Elizabeth Barrett Browning

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of every day's
Most quiet need; by sun and candle-light…

By Thomas D’Urfey

Never so happily in one
Did heaven and earth combine;
And yet 'tis flesh and blood alone
That makes her so divine

By Joseph Addison

Through all eternity to thee
A joyful song I'll raise,
For oh! Eternity is too short
To utter all thy praise.

By Thomas Hood

I love thee, I love thee,
'Tis all that I can say;
It is my vision in the night,
My dreaming in the day.

 I trust that you will find one of these romantic Valentine Day poems expresses the depth of your love and devotion. Happy Valentine’s Day.
