Parenting Style Test

In the parenting style test that is based on “actions” and “beliefs” there are three different parenting styles revealed. From the three different totals you are able to see if your parenting style is autocratic, permissive or active. Usually you will find that your parenting style is actually a combination of all three styles, with one the dominate style.

The authoritarian style is found in parents who believe in setting the rules and demanding strict obedience. This parenting style is more a “military style”, and is often found in cases of physical abuse.

The permissive parenting style is characterized by a touchy-feely type of parenting, being so concerned that the child’s creativity and feelings might be stifled, that there is a lack of restrictions and discipline. This “hippy style” of parenting often leads to rebellion due to children feeling unloved.

The authoritative style of parenting is characterized by parents who establish limits but at the same time encourage discussion and mutual respect. This parenting style actually takes the best of the authoritarian and permissive styles, resulting in a “TV family” style and children who are both responsible and thoughtful.

Taking a parenting style test can help you understand your particular style of parenting. Once you understand the result common to each parenting style, you will then be able to modify your parenting style to ensure that your child grows up to be a mature and well-adjusted adult.

Each search will lead to different types of tests with different methods of calculating the data collected, but all will give results based on the three basic styles of parenting.
