Parenting Style Quiz

Have you taken a parenting style quiz yet? If you haven’t taken a quiz about parenting styles, then I would highly recommend it. Almost every responsible parent occasionally wonders about their parenting skills. Too often we hear about what we shouldn’t do or about what we’re doing wrong, rather than what we are doing right. Taking a quick parenting style test will give you a better understanding of your particular parenting style.

There are three basic parenting styles revealed by these quizzes; autocratic, permissive and active, or some variation of those three. One parenting style quiz's results reveal parenting styles of permissive, authoritarian or authoritative.

If your scores reveal that you have a permissive parenting style then basically your child rules the roost. As long as your child gets his way everything is fine, but the minute you try to say no or ask him to do something he doesn’t want to do, then the storm starts. The problem with this style is that without enforcement of rules in the home, eventually your child may have problems accepting the consequences of his actions or dealing with any type of authority.

If you have an authoritarian or autocratic parenting style then you are the one who makes every decision and demands absolute obedience in the home. The atmosphere in the home may be more reminiscent of a battleground than a garden where growth and nourishment are experienced. As a result of your absolute controlling style, your child may not learn to make decisions for himself and will probably grow up to lack self-confidence.

If you tend to discuss rather than demand, and operate on a basis of mutual respect, cooperation and trust, then you probably have an active or authoritative parenting style. You believe in providing structure, while using discussion, routine and responsibility to teach your child positive social skills and consideration.

Usually your parenting style will be some combination of all three styles, with a tendency towards one style in particular. If you are experiencing some problems in the home and struggles with your child, taking the parenting style survey may help you understand how your own style of parenting may be at the root of the problem. Taking the quiz may be a real eye-opener, and help you understand what you can do to turn things around in your own home.

If you are interested in taking a parenting style quiz , just do a quick online search for “parenting style quiz”. There you will find several sites that each have their own version of the quiz. Answer the questionnaire at a couple of sites to see if your results are consistent. Just remember, you are the parent and the adult, how your child eventually turns out will be a direct result of your parenting style.
