Meaning of Baby Names

The meaning of baby names can be a major reason for parents to select a specific name for their baby. It is often a belief that the meaning of a name can instill certain characteristics or attributes that is the deciding factor in a baby’s name; such as, “Sophie” and “wisdom”. Another reason for choosing a specific name may be the parents’ wish to make a statement of their feelings for this child; for instance “David” and “beloved”.

In the past the meaning of a certain name, was believed to influence the child’s development and success in life. For instance “Ambrose” means “immortal”, perhaps giving that name to a son would indicate the parents’ desire for a long life for their child. Of course, it takes more than a name to ensure that the person actually turns out equal to the meaning; for instance, “Adolf” and “noble wolf”…not so much.

Much thought is usually given to the meaning of baby names when a baby is expected. Even the most unique baby names or exotic baby names may have meanings to be considered. Of course, when thinking about a name, take into account the entire baby’s name. After all, Mr. and Mrs. Butter, may not want to name their child “Peanut”…then again, if they are famous it could happen!
