Cases of student pregnancy are on the rise in many areas. One of the most important areas that many community groups are trying to improve is the education that these females receive during their pregnancy. Every learner is entitled to education, regardless of whether they are pregnant or not, but many of these females believe that their education is over once they have become pregnant. Nothing could be further from the truth. These community agencies help families faced with learner pregnancy decide the best course of action for the learner to continue her education.

In many cases, the learner has two choices with regards to education. One choice is to stay in school and continue their education with their peers until it is deemed medically necessary for them to discontinue attending classes. The other option is to take a break from school once the learner pregnancy is detected and return to school once the female is medically able and comfortable to return. The course of action taken is dependent on the wishes of the learner and her family.

Education about abstinence, sexual education, and healthcare are very important tools in the fight against learner pregnancy. If these females have a good understanding of what causes pregnancy and how to avoid it, the number of learner pregnancies will reduce over time. The most important thing to teach these young females is the value of abstinence until they are older and ready to care for a child. If these learners refrain from all sexual activity, the chance that they will become pregnant and have to face the challenges that come with an unplanned pregnancy is eliminated.

Helping females facing a learner pregnancy obtain proper healthcare is another very important task being undertaken by these community agencies. Proper healthcare is not only important to preserve the health of the infant, but is important for the health of the mother as well. By tackling these issues and helping these females, the community organizations are helping to reduce the risk of learner pregnancy in their communities and helping these females and their infants obtain a better quality of life.
