Funny Christmas Songs

Funny Christmas songs are often the substance of some of our favorite holiday memories. Just hearing the intro to “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” brings a smile of anticipation. Almost everyone has a couple of favorite funny Christmas carols that upon hearing them played over the radio signals the real start of the holiday season.

There are a number of online radio stations that play Christmas songs all year long. There are even some that primarily feature the funny Christmas songs we all enjoyed as children, and introduce new ones when them appear.

Often the funniest Christmas carols are those that take an old favorite and add new, slightly irreverent lyrics:
Old: New:
“I Saw Momma Kissing Santa Claus” “I Saw Elvis Dressed as Santa Claus”
“I’ll be Home for Christmas” “I’ll be Cloned for Christmas”
“Winter Wonderland” “Happily Addicted to the Web”
“Twelve Days of Christmas” “Twelve Days of Fast Food”
“Jingle Bells” “Rusty Chevrolet”

Probably the funniest new lyrics to an old song were “The Restroom Door Said Gentlemen”, sung to the tune of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”. Now, get the tune in your head, and here’s the first verse:

“The restroom door said Gentlemen, so I just walked inside
I took two steps and realized I'd been taken for a ride
I heard high voices, turned and found the place was occupied
By two nuns, three old ladies, and a nurse. What could be worse?
Than two nuns, three old ladies and a nurse.”

It pretty much goes downhill from there.

Some of the funniest Christmas songs can be found on Christmas albums put out by comedians. Bill Engvall released a Christmas album titled, “Here’s Your Christmas Album”. For the last couple of years one of the most played on the radio is Adam Sandler’s “Chanukah Song”. It’s become a favorite of radio-listeners even though it’s not actually about Christmas.

If you’re an animal lover, you might get a kick out of the number of holiday tunes that feature cats, dogs, chickens and frogs. You’re sure to get a kick out of the various funny Christmas songs found on the Jingle Dogs’ CD "Christmas Unleashed".
