One venue that typically carries holiday cards is discount stores, such as 99 cent or dollar stores. These stores will typically stock a large amount of holiday cards at the beginning of the holiday season and the prices for these cards may be less than half of the price you would pay at other retail stores. The cards that they carry may be overstocks from other companies or designs from the previous year that trendy retailers will no longer stock on their shelves.

Another place where you may be able to find discount holiday cards is at party supply stores. These stores typically carry a wide variety of greeting cards and some of the cards may be from lesser known manufacturers, meaning that the cards are not in high demand by those that are concerned with brand names. These types of cards typically go for a lower price in order to sell a larger quantity and allow consumers time to get used to the brand name.

Shoppers that are good at preplanning may have the best chance of obtaining their holiday cards at a real cost savings, because they can purchase their cards for next year from the cards left over from the current holiday season. When the holiday season is over, many retailers try to get rid of as many seasonal items as they possible can. This means that they will be willing to mark down the cards as much as 80% in order to get rid of them.
