Christening Party Ideas

Most christening party ideas are relatively simple. Of course, as with any celebration or party, it can be as simple or elaborate and as small or large as you and your budget can handle.

Some people go all out their child’s christening celebration and have live music, catered food, organized games for guests’ children and elaborate seating and décor. The venue for these celebrations can be just as impressive ranging from the country club, a local hotel’s ball room, or a formal garden. Remember to have a table set up for gifts and allow time for opening of gifts that guests have brought.

Another baptism party idea is the backyard BBQ. This is a more simple party, located outdoors, with an easy menu of grilled meats and vegetables, with sides of salads. For dessert the baptism cake with white frosting and decorated with the baby’s name and the date of the christening or baptism.

For christening party ideas about other venues is the church fellowship hall. Since the baptism or christening is usually conducted at the church, renting the adjacent fellowship hall is often the best choice. Not only is this convenient for the invited guests, but it is also usually available as a lower cost than other venues.

Another way to keep costs down for baptism parties is to limit the menu to cake, with accompanying nuts, crudités (or finger veggies), chips and dip and fruit punch or soda. A little more elaborate menu may include a meat and cheese tray, along with a tray of fresh home baked breads and rolls.

Decorations can be as simple or as elaborate as you desire. Usually the color scheme is going to be white, with perhaps a touch of pink or blue to correspond to the gender of the baby. However, other families choose to go with a specific theme such as a garden party or BBQ.

Despite all the christening party ideas, the main thing to remember is the reason for the celebration…your baby’s welcome into the church and family of God. Therefore, keep the focus on family and plan accordingly, and you will have a memorable and stress-free party.
