If you are looking to save money on the reception, one of the easiest cost savings can be found in where the reception is actually held. The location of the reception does not have to be in the ballroom of an exclusive country club, instead it can be held in a nearby state or city park. Check the church; if you are a member, you might be able to use the fellowship hall for free or for a small fee. You can also use the yard or house of a family member or close friend for both the wedding and the reception.

Other cheap wedding ideas revolve around the food that’s to be served at the reception. Many young couples cut costs by going “pot luck” and asking family and close friends to bring a dish of food to serve at the reception.

There are some great cheap wedding ideas for decorating for the wedding or reception. Check out your local dollar store for plastic champagne flutes, plates and napkins, as well as candles, ribbons and flowers in every color imaginable. If you’re creative, the local hobby and craft store will provide any number of inexpensive decorations.

With a little imagination and creative thinking outside the box, cheap wedding ideas can even be applied to the all-important wedding gown. One bride wore an ivory bridesmaid dress that was considerably cheaper than a similarly-designed ivory bridal gown. You can also find some beautiful gowns at your local thrift store that can be made “good as new” with a visit to the dry cleaners.
