Blessing for a New Baby |
|||
A blessing for a new baby is what some parents are electing to have in place is a naming ceremony or traditional religious baptism or christening. Sometimes this choice is a result of the parents who have moved away from any religious affiliation. Other times it is a compromise between parents with two different religious backgrounds. Usually the blessing for a new baby is an event to which family and friends are invited so they can not only meet the new baby, but lend their support at this important moment in the baby’s life. Often godparents or others who will have an important role in the baby’s life will take part in the proceedings by offering up a blessing or promise or vow for the baby. Often there is an officiant, be it a minister, rabbi or non-religiously-affiliate individual to conduct the blessing. Their presence gives the occasion the proper sense of formality desired of such an important ceremony. Here are just a few samples to help you write your own blessing for a new baby: “We offer this prayer for you, our darling daughter/son: With all our wishes, dreams and hopes for your future, we rejoice in your presence. We trust that you will always recognize the intense love that embraces you. May you experience a life of wisdom, health and happiness. May the light of love guide you on your pathway through life. May God bless and keep you in the palm of His hand. And may you live a long and blessed life.” ~ Parents
An Adoption Poem
Not flesh of my flesh, Asked of the godparents by the officiant: “Do you (godparents’ names) promise and forever vow to accept (child’s name) as your spiritual child? Will you protect, nurture, love and guide him/her throughout the future, promising to do whatever is necessary to ensure he/she grows up healthy, kind and wise?” A blessing for a new baby is a wonderful opportunity to gather around the parents and express your love and support. Take the time to speak a new baby blessing. In every birth, blessed is the wonder.
