Baby slings are those cloth contraptions usually worn over one shoulder, with a pouch area enabling an adult to carry an infant close. This might not be something you would see a business woman wearing over her power suit, as she strides down the sidewalk baby carried to her breast, diaper bag in one hand and briefcase in the other. Like me, you may have seen pictures of women in other countries working in the fields with a swatch of cloth wrapped around one or maybe both shoulders and mysteriously arranged to let them carry their babies in absolute security. Things are changing though, as parents realize that importance of physical closeness to a newborn's ultimate mental and emotion health. It’s been proven that abundant physical contact increases a baby’s feelings of security, but the end result is a child that has an increased capability of learning.
By wearing their baby, both parent and child enjoy the benefits of such closeness by instinctively learning each other’s body language. Not only will the mother or father find wearing baby slings a great way to keep the baby close, but it helps the baby’s system to adjust to the parent’s own rhythms via heartbeat, respiration and motion. There are a number of benefits of baby slings, the first, as mentioned above, is the increased development of intelligence for the baby. Because the baby is held securely by the sling, the parent’s is free to take care of daily tasks without continually being called away to pick up a crying baby. If the baby does begin to cry, the response by the baby wearing parent is immediate, which helps the child learn to trust. Another advantage of baby slings is that babies, who are worn by their parents on a regular basis, become a part of the daily life and rhythm of the family and community. This gives them a great educational benefit, as they are able to observe their surroundings from a place of absolute safety. Should you decide that baby slings might just be the way to go with your new baby, you’ll be happy to know that it will only take a day or two for you both to become comfortable with the arrangement. You may have to experiment to find which way works best for the both of you, but you will be thrilled with the bond that develops between you. Remember, baby slings are not just for mothers, either. Dads have found baby slings a great way to create a bond between father and child that is just not possible when dad is not much more than a diaper changer. Now, dad can now enjoy being a source of comfort and caring that was once reserved for mothers. Did you remember the Baby Shower Invitations? |
