Baby shower foods come in all shapes and sizes. Many of those who host baby showers prefer to provide an array of finger foods that won’t weigh the guests down and interfere in the baby shower games. For instance:
- I would serve of course chips and dips. A big jar of pickles for mother to be. Small items like fresh fruit platter and cheese with crackers etc. There most likely will be lots of games to play and fun. Wouldn't want to make a huge meal as most food will not be eaten. Think slumber party food for adults!
- If I were giving a baby shower, I would have things like boneless chicken wings, devilled eggs and sandwich wraps. I might have a couple different kinds of cakes and cookies, and I'd certainly have plenty of soda and lemonade.
- I would serve vegetable platters, chips, dips, fruit salads, cheese, crackers, anything small and easy to eat.
Others choose to go elaborate, fun or even exotic when it comes to baby shower foods:
- I just catered a shower for my niece and the main items were shrimp pasta and jambalaya with accompanying dishes such as fried chicken wings, spicy meatballs, stuffed eggs, finger sandwiches, and sliced turkey rolls.(turkey and cheese rolled in a flour tortilla and cut in half on a angle, plus fruit and veggie trays.
- Fun foods! I would have foods that tell people I put some thought into what they were eating, and that I wanted them to have fun. What kinds of foods might these be? Desserts of course - like home made cheesecake. But also some fun but convenient foods like mozzarella sticks, jalapeno poppers, maybe root beer floats.
- A great baby shower would have a diverse array of ethnic foods for the guests to enjoy. Examples would be sushi, Indian samosas and breads, and Brazilian feijoada. A chocolate fondue would be perfect conclusion.
Still others prefer to have a bit of a theme when it comes to baby shower foods:
- At all the baby showers I attend we always have punch, pink if the baby is to be a girl. Finger sandwiches of some sort. Mixed nuts. A cake with baby booties and diaper pins decorated on it, either in pink or blue if the sex of the baby is known. And we always have mints. My favorite are the ones made to look like mini pacifiers made out of gumdrops and mint lifesavers.
Other hostesses avoid any hint of a pink or blue theme and prefer that the baby shower foods show elegance while keeping the costs down:
- If I were to give a baby shower I would do fruits and cheese since they not only go perfect together but they are a cheap and easy way to satisfy your guests and give your shower a sense of elegance. I'm not one for "theme" showers like "baby" foods or "little boy" food. Keep it simple and keep it elegant.
The most common trend in baby shower foods is that they are easy to prepare and easy to serve.
- I would probably serve a selection of finger sandwiches like tuna, egg and ham salads. I would also have a veggie platter and fruit platter. Might have chips and dip too. Mostly I would have light easy to serve food.
Baby shower foods can be combined in many ways to create delicious menus
