What exactly are baby shower crafts? Well, it depends on who you ask. For one person they are craft projects that are done at the baby shower, while another will describe a hand-crafted item that is given as a gift. Then even another will say that baby shower crafts are about the actual shower decorations.
For instance, one woman described a baby shower that she attended where all of the guests were given hand-tools and asked to put together all of the different items that had been purchased for the nursery; baby bed, bassinet, changing table, shelving unit, etc. She relates that they enjoyed setting up the baby’s room and had a lot of fun. Of course, that could have been helped by the wine they were all enjoying!
Here are a few more of the answers we received when we asked folks to tell us about baby shower crafts:
- Funny you should ask that question. My niece just had a baby shower on April 7 and there was a contest asking her friends to build a miniature bassinet and the winner would receive a prize. Man, those ladies really got creative! However, it seems a few of them opted for the already constructed variety and then passed it of as handmade!
- A craft that guests can do at a baby shower is to you give each guest a plain white Onesie and some fabric craft paint. The guests then paint their own designs on the Onesies. The results were absolutely darling!
- Scrap booking is a good idea and it’s something everyone can join in on. A good gift would be a scrap book for the mother-to-be and all the guests contribute something personal from themselves to the book in remembrance of that day.
- The last time I attended a baby shower each guest was given a 12” square of cloth and a selection of fabric pens. They were then asked write down a wish or hope for the baby, a scripture verse, or other bit of wisdom. The mother-to-be’s mother-in-law then took all of completed squares and created a beautiful quilt for the baby. It was so beautiful that the mother turned it into a wall-hanging.
- Over the years, I have given several baby showers, as well as attended several. I've seen baby showers where every decoration was purchased, as well as showers where everything was handmade. I have found that there is no comparison between the two. The one with handmade crafts are always more special.
- I've learned to make "Diaper cake" centerpieces that are not only pretty but also give mom something she can use for baby. I've custom made centerpieces around the theme that mom chose, and incorporated the help of others. Siblings also love to be a part of making baby shower crafts for their coming new brother or sister.
Baby shower crafts make beautiful baby showers.
