We asked some parents who’ve done this to give us their best baby photo tips. Perhaps the tip most submitted dealt with the timing of the photo session in relation to the infant’s sleep schedule. As you will see, some suggest after awakening, while others like a sleepy baby better. You decide:

  1. Don't schedule the pictures right before or after the baby takes a nap - he or she will be cranky.

  2. Don't get anxious yourself - Baby will sense the anxiety and get even more anxious. Stay calm - and be prepared to reschedule if it just doesn't work out.

  3. Babies aren't predictable machines. Take along a couple of favorite toys to make the atmosphere seem as normal as possible.

  4. Also, just make sure that they are fed and had a nap before attempting to go to a photo shoot. So many hours are wasted trying to make a tired and hungry baby look happy. Then again…

  5. Take along a couple of extra outfits, plenty of wipes, and a hairbrush to the photo shoot - never know what might happen.

  6. There is nothing cuter than a sleeping baby. Schedule your pictures when you know your baby will be sleepy, but not cranky.

  7. Don't try to force Baby to stay in a certain position - a good photographer can get some wonderful shots without posing a baby.

  8. I have a princess wand that I wave around when we take our daughter and it always gets a smile.

Hopefully these baby photo tips from other parents will help you when you schedule that all important session with the baby photographer. Remember the result of that photographic session can be the basis for some memorable personalized photo birth announcements.
