A baby first aid kit for babies is not something you can buy off the shelf. Since first aid kits are designed and stocked with adults in mind, they rarely include items suitable for treating a baby. However, all is not lost. You can easily create the perfect emergency kit for your baby.

With an extra diaper bag, you can pack it with a regular first aid kit that you modify for your baby’s needs. Most good first aid kits will include the following items that can be used for your baby:

  • Thermometer
  • Tweezers
  • Bandaids
  • Gauze
  • Surgical or medical tape
  • Heat and cold packs
  • Disposable gloves
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Masks
  • Small splints

They will also include a number of over-the-counter (OTC) medications such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, anti-diarrhea medicines, anti-vomiting preparations and others. Babies are smaller and require specific OTC medicines that are prepared especially for them: infant fever reducers, anti-diarrheal medication, diaper rash cream, infant sunscreen, teething gels and other items.

In addition to the modified first aid kit, you’ll want to include a number of items in your baby’s emergency survival kit. Just remember that some of these items will need to be replaced on a regular basis as your baby grows and his or her needs change.

Additional Baby First Aid Kit Ingredients:

  • travel size bottles of baby wash
  • dry fluid replacement formulas and dry formula
  • bottled water for making safe replacement fluids or formula
  • pacifier
  • disposable diapers
  • baby wipes
  • a few changes of clothing
  • footed sleepers
  • socks
  • cap and mittens
  • Herbal products such as chamomile and catnip drops to treat an upset stomach and reduce the pain of colic and gas
  • plastic shopping bags for disposing of soiled diapers
  • tissues and paper towels
  • baby-sized washcloths in a Ziploc bag allows for you clean up your baby
  • baby blanket

A baby first aid kit should contain items necessary for treating bumps and boo-boos; it should also contain everything necessary to care for your baby. A little bit of planning now will give you great peace of mind in the event of a disaster or other emergency situation.
