  • Nervousness and frustration because at that point you have to make 20 + years of planning in about a minutes time.
  • When I first asked myself “am I pregnant”, I was terrified. I ran over so many "what if" scenarios about what could happen, how I would raise it, about adoption, abortion... It felt like everyone was staring at me, that everyone knew I might be pregnant. I kept trying to put it off as my imagination or paranoia. I kept telling myself that if my period doesn't come “tomorrow”, then it would be ok to be worried. I kept imagining symptoms that weren't really there. I worked myself up into such a frenzy; I was a terrible mess.
  • I was happy to find out that I was pregnant, but also scared of all the unknowns. These include the pregnancy, the birth process and caring for a newborn.
  • The first time I asked “am I pregnant” I felt a rush of fear, happiness and excitement for the future. I also felt a little sadness, things were going to change so much. I would be going to the unknown and I would have to take charge. No matter what it was time to grow up.
  • I was very scared the first time I asked myself the question "am I pregnant?" I was going to be a single mom and the father was not going to be around at all. I thought about abortion, I thought about giving up my child for adoption and running away from it all. I kept my pregnancy hidden for about 5 months before I told anyone...by that time I was ready to keep my son. I am glad I did, he's a wonderful kid!!!! Now he's 10.
  • I had on my graduation dress, a snug fitting white eyelet sheath, and when I opened the garage door (manually in those days) I ripped the zipper out! The idea that I might be pregnant (yes, was married) immediately popped into my head and I was exhuberant...except for the fact that my dress was ruined...oh well, won't be wearing that one again for awhile!

Probably the most overwhelming question most women feel when they ask themselves “am I pregnant” is fear. No matter what her circumstances are, there is a fear of the unknown, the fear of change and the fear of failure. Thankfully, most women put aside those fears and begin to plan to welcome their new baby into the world.
